Pinching from Beryl Bainbridge Norman Mailer gives us HIS account of Adolph Hitler`s half-brother, Alois.

Having read excerpts from the book, and preferring Beryl`s, I was struck by Mailer`s ability to attribute psychological and/or sociological causes to nineteenth and twentieth centuries European antiSemitism.

Mailer has obviously never lived in Europe or if he has he`s probably stayed at the Savoy or Claridges.

I`ve lived amongst racists and bigots who don`t even know they are and who see life as a divide between Toffs (mostly Jews) and us.

This has nothing to do with anything except the age-old antiSemitic symbols which have been passed down and ordained by institutions; currently tv and films.

Jews to them are scum. Full stop. Jews have no rights to earn a living nor to housing nor to anything else. There is an inveterate gentile/Jewish divide.

Now unless Mailer understands this, his book is nowhere.
