What do u think of severus snape? GOOD or EVIL and why?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Hard to say. On the hand Rowling has been writing him as a character to be loathed and hated, seemingly as perfect a villian as Voldemort himself. But she does have a habit of representing characters in a certain way that lead folks to view them that way when they are totally different from what folks would expect. Who would have expected Quirrell to be in league with Voldemort when they first read the first book? Or that Sirius was a murderer in the third book? Moody as a professor seemed someone Harry could trust only to turn out to be an imposter. Why not write Snape as the most vile of the vile, aside from Voldemort, only to have it turn out he really is working to bring down Voldemort.

But on the other hand, he has been written as a pretty vile character and truely seems capable of betraying everyone. We really don't know in full why he betrayed Voldemort the first time around by becoming Dumbledore's spy. Maybe Dumbledore captured him and he was afraid either Voldemort would try having him killed in captivity or Dumbledore would do something to him that he'd find unpleasant. And the sectumsempra spell was one Snape created back when he was in school. Certainly far from a nice spell, and seems one a dark witch or wizard might want to create due to the pain it causes. Not to mention how much Snape wanted the DADA position only to have Dumbledore refuse he recieve it for years before the events of HBP. Could that mean Dumbledore questioned if Snape really was loyal?
