Questions on my FINAL book plot!?

plot: A family lives in poverty, but because also of being poor, the dad's friend gets accused of killing the king (the king gets killed, lol) and the dad knows he didn't do anything, so he goes off for a while and tries helping his friend out of his so-called crime. The mom and the three daughters continue to live in their small home at the edge of the village near a dark forest. The dad's friend, however, has a son and a daughter, and the son is about as old as the dad's 2nd oldest daughter. The daughters, meanwhile, encounter many evil spirits wanting to do them harm and one of the daughters almost gets killed by them in the forest, if it wasn't for the dad's friend's son, lol. While the dad tries to save himself and the friend, many things go on and they all end up saved.
Now, i really need help on the ending and want to make something exciting happen besides the dark forest and the daughter almost being killed, also, how can i spice up the daughter and the dads friends son's relationship? Thanks! Opinions on the plot are welcome! BTW- its not really historic, more like fairytale/fantasy-ish

As for the "relationship" the kid finds out he's a prince and marries the daughter and they rule the crap hole!
