How do I find out which edition of Harry Potter I have?

Question:

How do I find out which edition of Harry Potter I have?

It says First American Edition, October 1998 with the numbers:

1 3 5 7 9 10 8 6 4 2 then
8 9/9 0/0 01 02

Do I have a first edition? I have tried finding out if I do or not but can't seem to find this information. Thanks for your help.
