Question:

How are the suicidal impulses in romeo and juliet related to the overall theme of young love?

Any ideas would help thanks!!

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: How indeed! Shakespeare, in most of his plays, dealt mainly with flawed characters. What were the flaws in Romeo? Many. A bipolar overly self indulgent fellow who sought to evade the problems of life rather than confront them. Juliets' only flaw was that she was too overwhelmed with romantic ideals of love to think clearly. And, in the end, when she couldn't achieve her objective, she refused to confront the realities of life as well. Though we are all captivated by the beauty of the words from these two star crossed lovers it is important to remember the underlying theme. Youth, in all it's glory, lacks the wisdom gained by experience to be able to adequately deal with the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune.
