Question:

Need history help asap!!!!!?

I'm confused with this question: Discuss the impact of the civil war on southern society. What traditions and instituions were destroyed by the conflict?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: The South witnessed the destruction of its manufacturing capability, court houses (numerous census and legal records at court houses- which are extremely important for descendants and genealogists), farms, its agricultural industry, some churches, universities, colleges, ports (shipping), etc. North Carolina RECENTLY received its original copy of the Bill of Rights; it was stolen during Sherman's March to the Sea.

Many blacks resettled into the South as sharecroppers; many were actually hired by their old masters- and new inventions and advanced technology allowed the South to transition from plow hands to technology operators.

This recent event (2006) proves that the scars and memories from the American Civil War are active ones:
Almost 140 years after the American Civil War concluded, United States Marshals retrieved North Carolina's copy of the "Bill of Rights" which was confiscated during Sherman's March. And, in 2006, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit, based in Richmond, Va., affirmed an earlier ruling by U.S. District Judge Terrence W. Boyle; "The document belongs to North Carolina."
