Question:

Good or bad Book?

I'm thinking of writing a book about in the future children (0-20) arent allowed to speak of certain things.Ex. Government, World problems, Freedom of speech, and etc. and to ensure they dont the Gov. implants small Microphones in their mouths to listen for key words they cant say and if they do they are sent to specail juvie until they learn what they can and cant say. and this girl Mandy her friend(Nick) goes to one of these Juvies and she begins to question why they are not allow to say these thing and ends up there to only to find Nick accept he no longer talks at all, because he is at level C in the juvie which removes a childs vocal chords. While shes there she reaches level B which so up a childs mouth for a so long. and thats all I got for now what do u think.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: It sounds good, a classic even--for children... It's very fascinating, and it has a very immense significance about our rights and freedoms, but it is quite cliched. It's sort of like Lois Lowry and George Orwell's styles, you know? When there is a main character who stands up against a society? Children love that kind of novel! I know, Orwell was also very much percieved by the adult community--but for two main reasons. One, he was original in his time, and there weren't a lot of fictional I-stand-up-against-the-world sort of stories. And two, his language, ideas, and book length was meant for adults.

Now, if you include themes, symbols, and recurring ideas throughout your novel, plus numerous touching yet not cheesy quotes, well then this might be an excellent book for adults. But chances are better if you write to children, and still include all those literary advantages!

What else, I like the grotesque part of cutting out vocal chords--because you know you couldn't put them back in, so the reader becomes angry at the society and sides with the character. But in those stories, every setting has to connect with the main character, either negatively or positively. For example, for the community you chose, the main character can be a shy, hard worker who doesn't care about any of the subjects children aren't allowed to talk about--or she might be involved in them seriously, and hates the society.

Hope I helped!
