Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: I did my best to explain it to an 11 year old.

1) Alexander had a lot of enemies and then Alexander took their land
(He accomplished greater conquests than any before him, but he did not have time to mold the government of the lands he had taken.)

2) Alexander was a great leader and many people say that he was the best military guy ever.
(Incontestably, he was one of the greatest generals of all time and one of the most powerful personalities of antiquity.)

3) Alexander was from a place called Greece (show your niece a map of Greece online) and, because Alexander owned a lot of countries (like we own one house, Alexander owned many houses), many people stayed in Alexander's houses and they really liked his language, food and toys. So many people wanted to be more like Alexander and they ate the food that Alexander ate, and they spoke his language, and they also played with Alexander's toys.
(Alexander is responsible for the spread of Hellenism throughout the Middle East and into Asia, establishing city-states modeled on Greek institutions that flourished long after his death. There are many legends about him, e.g., his feats on his horse Bucephalus and his cutting of the Gordian knot. The famous Greek sculptor Lysippus did several studies of Alexander.)

1) Cleopatra accomplished everything she set her mind on. She won all the important battles needed to put her in charge of a country named Egypt

2) Many many years ago (51 B.C.), before Jesus was born, Cleopatra and her younger brother, Ptolemy XII, became joint rulers, like having two presidents, of Egypt

3) During Cleopatra's lifetime, she had three children: one from her husband, Julius Caesar, and two from her husband named Mark Antony. She and the children controlled (were in charge) a country named Egypt, and these were the important things in her life
