Question:

Do you think this story idea will work?

Here is my idea for a book: a young German Jewish man (WWII era) decides he's better off as a British POW than hiding out in Germany, afraid for his life, so he pretends to be a Nazi soldier in order to get captured by the British and sent to England. He has to maintain this identity so that he doesn't get shipped back to Germany. What do you think?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: I think this is a wonderful idea (!!) - but it does leave one with some very big, very important questions.

1- Why is this the only way this young man can preserve his life? Why does he choose this method of escape?

2- What will other Nazi POWs make of him? Wouldn't some other POWs be able to 'call out' on him as not being what he claimed to be? What would happen to him when and if they did? In other words, he would have to have a really good knowledge of how the military system operated - commanders, squads, etc. - so as to backtrack and make his story of being a Nazi believable.

3- What kind of impact does this have on his religious beliefs? Turning your back on your people and religion (which is in effect sort of what he did) would have to be a heavy burden on any man's soul. Will he be accepted back into the Jewish community after committing such an atrocity?

Just some points to ponder. This sounds like a wonderful - if complicated! - idea. Keep it up!!
