Question:

Ukrainian history - 1923?

Hello,

I am reading about eastern european history in general and I came across a disastrous even that happened in Ukraine, particularly Kiev (as I am reading) in 1932, 1933 and 1934. It was a famine which caused the death of a number of people, but, according to what I am reading, there are resons to think this famine was INTENTIONAL and that it is considered a genocide.

Can anybody explain me what happened please? Who would have wanted to kill Ukrainian people that way (let them starve to death, how evil and cruel!) and why? These books have not got enough information and I am pretty curious.

Thank you.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Yes, it was a deliberate results of Stalin's policies. Robert Conquest, The Harvest of Sorrow: Soviet Collectivization and the Terror-Famine Oxford University Press New York (1987) ISBN 0195051807 is a famous book about it.
