Question:

How do you sing from your diaphram?

I'm in a band and I've been told to sing through your diaphram. But I don't know how.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: OK, this is kind of difficult to explain but here goes.

Most likely the reason you were told that is because your singing might sound forced or "run out of gas" because you're singing from your throat or chest.

To better get a feel for singing from "the gut" as I call it, you should first practice breathing in so that your stomach expands, then breathe out, so your stomach gets flatter. Get a feel for this, as its the foundation for singing from the gut.

Once you get the hang of that, use the breath coming from your gut as you squeeze your stomach to power your voice. By controlling how much air escapes while you're singing, you should be able to use this method to stay powerful as you sing without getting your throat or voice box tired.

Of course, remember to take breaths where its OK to in the song, such as commas or pauses. Then use this breath to keep singing! Rinse and repeat.

Best of luck to you and your singing career!
