Question:

If we don't have free will, then what's the use of consciousness?

Consciousness is an extremely expensive (physiologically speaking) activity. Why else would we have it if not to be able to make decisions for ourselves?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: For any given circumstance there can be thousands of results. The premise of fate states that one, possibly all outcomes WILL happen. Consciousness guides you to one of the outcomes. One might argue that Consciousness helps us survive ( a survival trait), so its role is to insure a fate of long life rather than a short one. Fate isn't a contradiction of one's with ability to choose.
