Question:

Are award-winning books necessarily the best books to read?

i love reading but
1) there are too many books out there
2) i don't want to waste my time reading a bad book, &
3) i'm not aware of which ones are the good books amongst the millions in my library.

i automatically assume that the easiest way to find out which books in my library are most worth a read is by checking the award-winning section in the library.

BUT, are award-winning books necessarily the most worth a read? if not, how else can i find out about GOOD books?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Just because the book has an award doesn't mean it's good. When I was a kid, I was going to read all of the Newberry Award winners, and there were quite a few of them that were horrible.
To find some good books, go to your local library and talk to the librarians. Let them know what kind of book you are looking for, and ask if they know of any good ones in that genre.
I'm a big murder mystery fan myself; if you like them, try "The Murder of Roger Ackroyd" by Agatha Christie. It can be wordy, but the story is great, and I guarantee you will never guess who the killer is.
Good luck with your search! There's some great stuff out there!
