Everybody alive owes it to themselves to read it - it's part of our culture. There are even words and phrases from the book that have become part of the English language.

Really, it's a very important book (and it's not even long!). Try to forget that you are doing schoolwork and just enjoy it. If you do that, it'll show in your work anyway.

btw, if you're into rock and roll...David Bowie's album Diamond Dogs is based on the book 1984. Great album!
