Question:

HELP! please?

What is the font size typically used in books? What a writer turns into a publisher, is that exactly what gets published or do they edit it. Do the number of pages change? To publish something do you do it in microsoft word or somewhere else? Any help would be really nice.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Most books typically adopt 12 point font of either standard New Times Roman or Helvetica in some cases. For the most part, your book will be edited to a degree. How much original content is retained depends upon among other things the cost of production, the editors subjective opinion, and the needs and wants of the market for which you write.

For myself, I am typing my novels in Microsoft Word. Are there better programs? Possibly. I'm sure there is software you maybe able to buy with all the fancy layouts, etc...
Still, I don't think that matters as much. A standard program such as Microsoft should suffice. In fact, many of today's best authors still use typewriters.

One suggestion I have as far as editing before attempting to contact a publish read, profread, revise, and edit a number of times. If you send your manuscript in the best format possibly you have less of a chance of either being thrown into the toss pile, overlooked, rejected, or edited to a great degreee.

I can tell you also that one typed page (standard 8 by 11) in book format is equivalent to about three to four book pages.

Hope this helps you and serves as a starting point for your endeavors into getting your book published.

God bless.
