Question:

What books do you reccomend for a 14 year old girl?

I am going to try to read more over the summer. Some books i really liked were The Lovely Bones, The Nanny Diaries and Alice, I think. I enjoy books from the Young Adult section and the Adult Section. I don't like fantasy books (unless they are really well written) What books would you reccomend to a 14, almost 15 year old girl? If you knew, could you also include the author?
Thank you :)

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Well, I'm the same age as you, and I love to read. Let's see what I can think of...

"A Great and Terrible Beauty" and "Rebel Angels", both by Libba Bray, are very good books. They do have a bit of the fantasy element, but they also have adventure, romance, history, suspense, and pretty much anything else. They're complicated.

"Thirteen Little Blue Envelopes," Maureen Johnson (or it might be Johnston, I'm not sure). A teenage girl gets a letter from her recently deceased favorite aunt sending her on a scavenger hunt through Europe...and ends up discovering herself.

"Life of Pi," Yann Martel. The A-M-A-Z-I-N-G story of a teenage Indian boy who survives a shipwreck, only to find himself adrift in a lifeboat with a Bengal tiger for company.

"Fahrenheit 451", Ray Bradbury

"A Separate Peace," John Knowles

"The Diary of a Young Girl", Anne Frank. (You HAVE to read this one, if you haven't already.)

"The Historian," Elizabeth Kostova. Think Dan Brown meets Bram Stoker. (Actually, I didn't like 'The Da Vinci Code', but I loved this book.) The unnamed teenage protagonist discovers letters in her father's library - all addressed to 'My dear and unfortunate successor.' It's a vampire story in triplicate, all leading to one inevitable end. Anyway, it's a "suspense" novel. I'd call it horror, but there's next to no blood. Bit of romance, nothing too bad.
