Question:

What is different between the hard metal death metal and Gothic metal style?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Many things are different.

Death metal is based a lot on speed, heaviness, brutal vocals, unstructured songs, and (most of the time) highly technical playing. The lyrics usually focus on death and gore. It stemmed from the thrash metal of the 80's, for people who wanted something generally more brutal to listen to.

Gothic metal, on the other hand, uses a lot of keyboards and synthesizers, and is known to have dual vocalists (ie. a female vocalist and a male vocalist). A lot of it is based on generating a certain atmosphere, and because of this, can also utilise acoustic guitars, piano's, and wind instruments to create this atmosphere. It is different to Death metal in that it does not base its compositions on brutality or speed, and in fact, many Gothic metal songs can be very slow and devoid of any heaviness at all. Some Gothic metal bands don't even rely on guitars that often, where as in Death metal guitars are a MUST to generate that heavy sound.

I recommend you check out the death metal band Nile, and then gothic metal band Type O Negative. You will definitely see the many differences between the two genres they play.
