Question:

How do you get a good vibrato on the flute?

I'm going to a flute camp,
and everybody knows how to vibrato besides me.

Any tips?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Flute vibrato is the same as singing vibrato. It's going woo-woo-woo-woo to the air. Trying singing "loo" and add vibrato there. Then try it on the flute.

Here is a video of the great flute player James Galway teaching a flute class how to produce vibrato!

It's important to practice vibrato everyday in long melodies.

You can also try the Moyse vibrato long tone excercise. The goal of the excercise:
Vibrato is like a wave. Make sure the top and the bottom are even and gradual. Set the metronome at 60. Play B for one beat to B-flat for 3 beat. (repeat it 2 times)

Use 1 vibrato per beat. make sure you can do it evenly with great control. (do the excercise 2 times)

then do 2 vibrato per beat, with the same care. (2 times)

then do 3 per beat, (2 times)

then 4 per beat, (2 times)

then 5, (2times)

then 6, (2 times)

The next day, you will do B-flat for one beat to A for 3 beat. Use the same formular as above. Every subsequent day, go down chormatically.
