Question:

Putting a novel into pdf format?

I've had this novel on typewritten paper 4-ever because I'm a writer, not a typist. I'm slowly getting some of my chapters re-typed into my e-mail. But I found a publisher that is interested. The problem is he wants the novel submitted in pdf format. How do I take the chapters in my e-mail, put them in book format & place them in a pdf file to send?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: You might want to double check the publisher. It is unusual for a publisher to insist on PDF format; text or rich text (.txt and .rtf) are generally the preferred electronic means of submission since these formats will generally display properly no matter what computer and setup you are using (Mac, PC, a Linux system, etc) and they are much smaller in size. This isn't to say that publishers don't or won't take PDF, it is just unusual for one to insist on it.

That aside...

By any chance do you have Adobe Acrobat? If so, then the easiest method is to use that (file->Create PDF->from file->select a word-processing file).

Another very simple way is to scan it. Some scanners will scan the typewritten pages in as images (jpg, png, etc), but many "professional" ones (like the ones at your local kinko) should scan it in as a pdf. Just be sure before hand (because 100 pages of images scanned onto a computer will be friggenly huge).

However, something to note, email is a horrible way to store your story. You should take it out of email (copy and paste being the easiest method, but some emails will have other options) and put it into a word processing program (Word being something that you probably have, but Notepad and Wordpad are both fine).
