Question:

How to get to drawing to the best, details and all?

I am getting into drawing a certain manga cartoon style but i have a hard time imagining it and putting it down on paper. I want to draw what I think and see but there is nothing that interests me except small children and things that small children use for example a baby and a bottle. I notice not very many people draw babies or toddlers but I want to draw them in a cartoon manga sort of way. My question is how do I get it out of my head and on to paper details and all. I know that it takes practice but does anybody have any advice for this field?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: I completely understand what you mean. My art teacher once told my class of a way to ge your drawing looking exactly like the subject and although it is not my favourite way of drawing, it proves to be realistic and effective. She said that for this kind of drawing you don't need an eraser until the very end. She said that there are three step, "look, hold and draw". Basically what this means is that you stare at the subject while you are drawing it on the paper. Only ocassionally do you look at your paper. Try to look at it as a certain shape, not as a baby or what ever you are drawing. Don't look at your paper and think that it is bad because it doesn't look like the thing that you are trying to draw. Think of it as shapes, and put those shapes down on paper just as you see it. A good idea would be to have either the thing that you are drawing in front of you are a picture so you know the proportion and ratio of length. Restating lines is great. Go over the lines how many times you feel necessary and it is okay if the lines are different the second time or the third time, in the end just make the line you like really bold. Overall, my advice is to draw in shapes. If you do this you can never go wrong and don't give up if it doesn't work out the first few times. You can't excpect great things out of the first time. It's a good idea to draw things that people haven't drawn a lot of yet. Good job on your creativity :) Have fun and remember that as long as you enjoy drawing, the results will correspond to your mood! Have fun!
