Question:

What are some?

What are some really good, accurate, easy, free sites that can help me trace back my family tree? Also what are some good, accurate websites that can tell me if I am related to somebody royal?

Thank You.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Here are a few resources to try:

http://www.familysearch.org - Probably the best free online resource.

http://www.ancestry.com is one of the best but has a hefty subscription fee (for most of its databases).

Also, you can check the surname message boards for your surname at:

http://genforum.genealogy.com
http://boards.ancestry.com

For links to helpful sites, you will want to take a look at:

http://www.cyndislist.com

And finally for a lot of different resources:

http://www.rootsweb.com

Lots of times you will find one bit of information from one place, and another from somewhere else, that you have to slowly piece together. Be sure to keep detailed records of where you got your data from so that your family tree can be reliable.

The only way to really find out if you are related to somebody royal is to trace it back one generation at a time and see if your line meets up with royalty at some point down the line.

Good luck,
Dave
