What is the type /genre of art or pictures called that uses shadowing only to make the picture....?

It is hard to explain what I mean not a silhouette... but I am looking for types of pictures that are just the shadowing of parts of the face - and thats the only thing tat makes up the picture...kind of like pop art is usually picture made from lots of tiny dots....I need to know what it is called when you have pictures made from the shadowing of eyes, nose etc - and that is the only detail that makes the picture up....what is the type of art called please?? sorry thats not a very good explanation.....

Pop art is only a metaphor for popular art and Roy Lichtenstein was the artist that used the dots in his art. is it used in photography of in art as in paintings
