Question:

Spilts Help?

I have been dancing for a while and dance is pretty much my life. I dance four times a week, and want to do more! Anyway, I have really long legs, and you may be thinking, "that's perfect for dancing!" Well, they are, but they make it extremly difficult to do spilts, etc. I'm not very flexible in my legs and hips, and if I want to keep dancing, since all the work will become even harder, I feel that I need to be able to do at least front spilts. I also feel embarrassed being the only girl in my class who can't. So I was wondering if anybody had any help or exercises, or stretches I could do to help me. Again, I'm not that flexible so I may not be able to do the stretches you suggest, lol.
Any help at all is appreciated!
Thank you so much!!

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Read "The Stark Reality of Stretching" by Dr. Steven Stark. The key point is that you should stretch only to the point of first resistance and hold. The muscles will loosen and you can go a bit further. If you stretch every day your flexibility will improve. Don't over stretch unless you want ligament damage, scar tissue and ultimately reduced flexibility. Six days seems very ambitious. Take longer and avoid permanent damage to your joints and ligaments.
