Question:

What was life like in Texas in 1870 for a cattle herder's family?

I'm doing some research for a story about a cattle herder and his wife told from the wife's point of view, and I need some reliable information about what life was like in the 1870's and would've been like for her at home alone.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Hard as hell. My mother was the eldest of 10. She was born on the oldest parcel of land in the Lousiana Purchase ""Fort Saint Denis in Nachitoches: Cane River"1714. The farm was the thing back then. That's the reason the famalies were so damned big. They needed the help with the farm(SERIOUSLY)!
1870 must have been especially difficult for women. If you have ever worked on a farm where there are cattle, you got to know that the women are backbone of the entire ranch. But don't take my word for it. I'll send you some pictures of my mom and Granny.
