Question:

Quote about the Red Queen's ability to "believe what she wants to believe?"?

Heinlein's "Stranger in a Strange Land" has a line going something like "she had the Red Queen's convenient ability to believe anything she wished." Can anyone point to a specific place in Caroll's "Alice in Wonderland" where this might have come from?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: This is a reference to "Through the Looking Glass" and, unless I am very much mistaken, to the White Queen, rather than the Red. The portion of the dialogue that is usually quoted is "believing six impossible things before breakfast."

I don't have a copy of Carroll at the present time, but Alice's encounter with the White Queen is fairly lengthy, at least one full chapter, and occurs around the middle of the book.

Hope that helps.
