Question:

Where to buy bulk chemicals for photo processes?

I'm specifically interested in purchasing chemicals to make some Van Dyke Brown emulsion. All of the chemical suppliers online seem to sell chemicals in HUGE portions and I dislike the formula that Photographer's Formulary uses. Anyone know of a good website that will sell smaller portions of chemicals?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Try the below site as a supplier for all of your own home photo recipes.

I've never used them, although they're supposed to have a very good reputation.

Looking through their chemicals section, they have ferric ammonium citrate in 250g quantities, tartaric acid in 100g quantities, and silver nitrate in 25g quantities.

You might also try laboratory chemical suppliers like Sigma-Aldrich, which can probably supply chemicals in quantities of varying size.

By the way, keep in mind that when shopping for chemicals, there was, at least at one time, a grade known as "photo grade." Photo grade is typically more pure than, say, food grade, but not as pure(or as pricey) as reagent grade chemicals.
