Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Yes - the short amount of time he took to paint it means that it was impossible to have done it alone. And as others have mentioned, most artists had assistants and apprentices to help them. Michelangelo was probably no different. It isn't known how much help he had though - some artists let their assistants do a very large amount of the work, probably most of it. Although Michelangelo was a perfectionist and a bit prickly - it's rumoured that he got so impatient with the Pope coming in and asking when it would be ready that he painted him in as one of the souls burning in hell. Therefore, he probably only had help in menial tasks such as mixing paints etc.

PS He didn't have a wife - he was probably gay.
