Why is repetition used in the Epic of Gilgamesh?

Question:

Why is repetition used in the Epic of Gilgamesh?

I have to write a reading log and one of the things you can do is ask a question but you must also write a what you think the answer to your question is. My question is why is repetition used repeatedly in this story and I can't think of a reason why...any ideas?
