Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Today we would call it Lymphocytic colitis. In between it was called Dysentery. It basically means that the baby had serious diarrhea that caused her to dehydrate and led to total system failure. Sadly, it wasn't uncommon back then and usually hit when babies were starting to drink from cups. The water wasn't the safest and they had a bad habit of reacting poorly to it. The more the diarrhea, the more bad water they were given. The vicious cycle killed them.
