Question:

Where can I find the record of the death of a mariner who died at sea?

The local registrar has no record of the death of an ancestor who I know died in 1856. There is no trace through Ancestry.co.uk. Is there a central record somewhere for mariners?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Have a look at the links I have posted below, my g/g/grandad was a sailor and it had been thought he died at sea, I searched for years for his death certificate. Then quite by chance I had a look through the census in a place where he had been born Manchester, that revealed he was alive and well, he was living with his second wife bigamously. He was still married to his first wife.
